Thoughts on Management

Preface

This is a collection of my columns, Keiei hitorigoto ("Thoughts on Management"),
a regular feature I wrote for Obun Printing's Web page. The columns describe my thoughts and enthusiasm about business, which I wanted to relate to my employees, whom I feel are my close counterparts.

Keiei hitorigoto was originally called Ryu-munication. This is a word I created by combining my first name, Ryushi, with "communication," a sort of pun meaning "Ryushi's communication." Through this Ryu-munication column, I began communicating with people working in Obun. Actually, it started as the prefatory remarks for our in-house magazines.

After a period of time, however, printing of this in-house magazine was ceased, despite the fact that we are a printing company. Instead, a space was made available for me on our website. Naturally, the themes and topics I picked up changed from what I used to choose for the in-house magazine, which was meant only for Obun's internal communications.

Regardless of the scale of a business, as a message from the CEO open to the public, I must make it something meaningful. Otherwise, despite their excellent work, the company's employees will be viewed with the thought, "Is that the kind of company you work for?" Therefore, I tried to think reflectively and build sentences in diverse ways to avoid embarrassing my employees.

With the course of time, people gain experience, and are changed through them. I will continue to write these essays to enjoy the changes and convey my thoughts to people.
